The February meeting for Hearthside Quilters will be on Thursday, Feb 16th at
7 p.m. at the Harwinton Senior Center. Our program will include a wrapped Quilters choice handmade item of your choice of craft. Some suggestions made were Valentine item, baked goods, candy or anything else you can think of making. The medium is your choice. Let's see what you can create possibly with a Valentine theme. Certainly if your gift isn't handmade it won't be eliminated but it would be nice if it was. At our January meeting Linda Ronalter demonstated At cathedral heart made of fabric and Margaret Gumbs showed a technique to use up fabric scraps called fabric crumbs that could also be made into a Valentine or any kind of card, wall hanging or pillow etc. what will you think of to make and exchange?
There will be a bus trip on Saturday, March 18 to Rhododendron Needlers Quilt Show in Canton, MA. The cost is $50 per person which includes the bus fee and ticket to the show. The bus will leave at 7:30 a.m and arrive back home at approximately 7 p.m. For more information please call Linda at 860-482-3948. The bus holds 32 people and has a bathroom. Come and join the fun!
Ongoing we wait to see any UFO's that have been completed. Hopefully you have registered your unfinished quilts and working hard to see them finished. And when you do finish anything, don't forget to bring it for show and tell. Quilters love to see the work of other fellow Quilters.
Lastly at our February meeting we have decided to play the game Left Right Center. This is a dice game that we play to win fabric that each of us that wants to play will bring to the meeting. Please bring 3, 2 1/2" strips the width of fabric, preferably quilt quality fabric. There will be one winner per table of players for each game played. You could be wining pile of fabric!
On Saturday, January 21st some of the quilters met all day at the Senior Center to work on charity projects. Donated fabric from members was sorted, separated into pillow case kits, sewn into quilts and organized by color to make projects for Hole in the Wall Camp pillow cases and quilts, Parkinson quilts, and pillow cases and quilts for CT Children's Medical Center. A small but mighty group of workers enjoyed sharing, quilting and socializing while working on charity projects. Fabric and batting donations are welcome as well as people to assemble and quilt the tops others make.
Below are a few pictures of our gathering at the Senior Center. Come and join us for the next charity quilt day in March!
