Hearthside Quilters November meeting was held at The Quilted Ewe with guest speaker from Shannon who spoke on Cuddle Fabric. This soft luscious fabric works into the most cuddly blankets, scarfs and wraps for all sizes. Several door prizes were given out and one larger blanket kit was won by Roberta Stoddard. Stop up to The Quilted Ewe if you want to check out this gorgeous fabric. Show and tell was enjoyed by all as well as some great fall snacks.
Our December meeting is being held once again at The Quilted Ewe on December 15 at 6:30. Floor renovations are being done at the Harwinton Senior Center so we needed to find a different spot. Mary from The Ewe graciously offered her classroom for our appetizer and dessert party and monthly meeting. We will start earlier in December and plan to start at 6:30. Come early and remember you can shop while at The Ewe. Bring a wrapped handmade grab bag if you want to participate in the fun and don't forget a dish to share. And there's always show and tell so bring those Christmas projects to show us. Let's enjoy the company of each other and take the time to relax before the last minute crunch is upon us. See you there!

This is Donna Bruno's Park Place quilt. She made it recently while recovering from knee replacements. She started it at a Hearthside workshop last spring held at the Quilted Ewe in New Hartford. The pattern is by Karen Griska. The beautiful longarm machine quilting was done by Sandy West.

The meeting was led by our new President Karen Kiely. We received our new handbooks and heard about all the exciting activities planned for the coming year.
Karen Kiely purchased this pristine antique hand-quilted feathered star quilt at the Bethlehem Fair for 50 cents!!

Our our last meeting of the season was held on June 16, 2016. Our year long project of making quilts for Parkinson's patients came to a productive end. We were able to give Sue Pelchat, who runs the Parkinson's Support Group here in Torrington 25 quilts. The first quilt our group made was given to the husband of Betty Ann Poll, Hearthside member. She was the one who brought the idea forward to making quilts for this charity. We had a wide variety of quilts made by our members and the effort was very successful. Also happening at the meeting was the Block of the Month challenge. The two winners were Betty Ann Poll and Jackie Howe. There were several beautiful quilts made by members all making them with their own colors and style. Another fun challenge for the group.
Quilts below are some of the Parkinson's Quilts. Sue Pelchat came to accept the quilts we made for the group to distribute to patients. She is pictured below.

At our meeting on May 19th we had a Gee's Bend Look Alike Challenge. Below are some of the quilts that were made by our members. We had 14 quilts on display. At the same meeting we had a Tea Cup Auction to add proceeds to our treasury so we have more money for speakers for next year. It was a great night! Thanks goes to Karen Griska and Roberta Stoddard for organizing this challenge. Next month our block of the month quilt tops will be on display for voting as well. Come and join our guild!
